I am a qualified Primary School Teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and an Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs (SEN).
I have 20 years of experience in a variety of Early Years and Primary educational settings as a teacher, School SENCo, Inclusion Advisor and most recently Specialist Teacher.
I have been part of the local authority, education and health, multi-disciplinary diagnostic team for the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and sat on the ASD steering group committee to influence policies and practice locally. As part of this process I have carried out social communication observations and written reports based on my findings to support the clinical diagnosis of ASD.
I am qualified to the level of ‘Clinical Reliability’ to administer and code the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition ADOS 2 (toddler through to adult). This is considered to be the ‘gold-standard’ diagnostic tool for the evaluation of children and adults with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and can be used as part of multi-disciplinary decision making process to diagnose ASD.
I am TEACCH, SCERTS and Signalong trained and I am constantly updating my professional knowledge regarding current practice and research in the field of Autism.
As a teacher and parent myself I can appreciate the challenges and need for both a genuine understanding and the right approach when educating all our children. Every child is wonderfully unique and I am passionate about ensuring their happiness and growth in their earliest years regardless of their apparent differences.
‘Like the branches of a tree, we all all grow in different directions but our roots remain the same.’
I am able to offer a wide variety of bespoke support packages for both home and educational settings. Please contact me for information.
