Autism Assessment, Consultancy & Education

As a qualified and experienced Specialist Teacher in the field of Social Communication Difficulties and Autism, I am able to offer a wide range of assessments, advice and practical hands on support to both home and educational settings.

I offer a professional but flexible service and have a variety of support packages available to meet the needs of children and adults, pre and post diagnosis.

I am clinically reliable to administer the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) assessment, following the NICE guidelines, which can be used as part of a multi-professional diagnostic process, which I am also able to offer. I am TEACCH trained (by Professor Gary Mesibov, former Director of Div. TEACCH, USA). I am also SCERTS trained (by Emily Rubin MS, CCC-SLP Director Communication Crossroads) Carmel, CA.

I have an open referral system and parents, educational colleagues and health practitioners can contact me via my website for further information.

What is ASD?

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition of the brain that affects social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour.

Symptoms of ASD are often present between one and three years of age and early interventions can be very successful, although a diagnosis of ASD can be considered for children and adults at any stage of life.

It is estimated that more than 1 in 100 people in the UK have ASD (including Asperger Syndrome) with a higher proportion of males currently diagnosed with the condition than females.

ASD is a lifelong condition, however speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, educational support and a number of other interventions can be very successful in decreasing anxiety and increasing others awareness to the difficulties an individual with ASD may experience.

In children especially, an early diagnosis allows developmental interventions to have the greatest impact.

For further information about ASD please visit The National
Autistic Society’s website www.autism.org.uk or call the
Autism Helpline on 080 8800 4104.
