I am a qualified Primary School Teacher with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and an Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs (SEN).
I have 17 years of experience in a variety of Early Years and Primary educational settings as a teacher, School SENCo, Inclusion Advisor and most recently as local authority Specialist Teacher .
I have been part of the local authority, education and health, multi-disciplinary diagnostic team for the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As part of this process I have carried out social communication observations and written reports based on my findings to support the clinical diagnosis of ASD.
I am qualified to the level of ‘Clinical Reliability’ to administer and code the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition ADOS 2 (toddler through to adult). This is considered to be the ‘gold-standard’ diagnostic tool for the evaluation of children and adults with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and can be used as part of multi-disciplinary decision making process to diagnose ASD. I am TEACCH and Signalong trained and I am constantly updating my knowledge regarding current practice and research in the field of Autism.
ADOS 2 Assessment
I am able to offer independent ADOS assessments to support health colleague’s multi-disciplinary decision making regarding the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I am able to work within a set timeframe if necessary and as I work independently I am able to offer a 3/4 week turn around with written reports once I have seen a child for an ADOS-2 assessment. The ADOS reports I compile are very detailed including a comprehensive developmental history and clear recommendations for both home and school.
Post Diagnosis Support for Parents
I am able to work with parents post diagnosis to help them understand ASD further and offer useful practical strategies for in the home. I can offer home/Pre-School/School visits and help link parents with other support groups in their local area. I have a wealth of experience in this area. Please contact me for further details.
Help with EHC (Education Health Care) Plan
Following a diagnosis by a health colleague it may be appropriate for an EHC Plan to be considered. With parental permission and after home/Pre-School/School observations I can compile a comprehensive specialist teacher report with educational recommendations, which could be used as evidence towards an EHC Plan request/assessment by the Local Authority. Although I cannot guarantee outcomes, a report of this type alongside other professional’s findings, can offer independent clarity to help ascertain a child’s primary area of need and assist in helping the authority to make appropriate educational recommendations.
